Annie Proulx is a Pulitzer Prize–winning American author known for her vivid, muscular prose and harsh, vividly realized landscapes, author of The Shipping News and the story 'Brokeback Mountain.'
Annie Proulx came to fiction relatively late and quickly established herself as a major voice. Her novel The Shipping News (1993), set in a harsh Newfoundland, won both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.
