Anthony Ryan is a British fantasy author who rose to prominence when his self-published debut, Blood Song, became a word-of-mouth sensation, launching the bestselling Raven's Shadow epic fantasy series.

Anthony Ryan worked in various fields before self-publishing Blood Song in 2011. The novel — a gripping coming-of-age epic fantasy about a boy forged into a warrior by an order of fighting monks — built a passionate following through word of mouth, became a bestseller, and earned Ryan a traditional publishing deal, a celebrated success story of the self-publishing era.
