Michael Cunningham is an American novelist best known for The Hours, the Pulitzer Prize–winning novel inspired by Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway.
Michael Cunningham is celebrated for the lyricism and emotional depth of his fiction, which often explores love, art, time, and the search for meaning in everyday life.
His novel The Hours (1998) won the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Award, interweaving three women’s lives across the twentieth century around Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway; it became an Academy Award–winning film. His other novels include A Home at the End of the World and Specimen Days.
