The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2007), a tense monologue addressed by a Pakistani man to an American stranger, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, as was the migration fable Exit West, in which doors open magically between countries. His other works include How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia and The Last White Man.
Hamid is admired for the elegance and economy of his prose and for fiction that illuminates the great political and human questions of the globalized age.
