Nic Stone is a New York Times bestselling American author of young adult and middle-grade fiction, best known for her hard-hitting debut Dear Martin, which tackles racial profiling and justice through the eyes of a gifted Black teenager.

Nic Stone grew up in Atlanta and worked in youth mentoring before turning to writing fiction that confronts the realities facing young Black Americans. Her 2017 debut, Dear Martin, became a bestseller and a widely taught text, using the device of a teenager’s letters to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to explore racial profiling, police violence, and the search for justice.

She has since written its sequel Dear Justyce, the acclaimed Odd One Out and Clean Getaway, and contributions across YA and middle grade, establishing herself as a leading voice in socially engaged fiction for young people.
